Week 7, 2009
Woohoo!! 6-0!!! What can I say?!?! I'm excited!! We have now officially silenced about half of our critics.... Or should I say Josh McDaniels has silenced them! Of course it should be more but hey, let 'em hate... They'll underestimate us while they're at it and guess who'll be sitting at home watching the Broncos in the Super Bowl!!! I love the fact that we have become such a second half team! Even when we're trailing at half time, it's no biggie because I have faith we'll come back and kill 'em. We've outscored our opponents 76-10 in the second half!!! 76-10! That's huge!!
Week 5, 2009
5-0 baby!!!! Stick that in your haterade!!!! First it was we can't win without Cutler... Well we did!! Then at 3-0 it was we haven't played anyone good (Hello... Cincy is 4-1, their only loss being to us!), then it was Dallas played like crap so of course we won. What's the next excuse?!?!?! We made some stupid stupid mistakes (Hello!! way to give them two free sets of downs on 4th down penalties!!) and we still came out on top of Brady and his Pats. Way to go team!!! I love it!!! :) Bring it San Diego! Better use your rest wisely this week....
Week 4, 2009
4-0!! Woohoo!! Nice play Brandon Marshall... I will definitely give ya props on that one. And another exceptional pick for Champ... Way to go! D looked good, I am happy about that. Kyle, you are gonna have to be better on target. There were some wide open guys out there that you missed completely, in addition to two balls that really should have been picks. Overall, good game though... Great stand at the end guys, not letting the 'boys back in it. 4-0!! Woohoo!! And may I add that we have the stingiest defense in the league, allowing only 26 points in 4 games (second place is 53 by the way).
Week 3, 2009
Well, well, well..... 3-0! Not that this game was particularly difficult. I mean, it was the lowly Raiders.... But I'll definately take the good start to the season. I hate the fact that we turned the ball over this game, even though we got it right back. We were the only offense that hadn't turned the ball over yet this year (we did turn it over on special teams though if you recall Hillis's kick return - or lack thereof....). Of course the announcers beat that fact to death and of course, we turned it over. How typical.
This is where it starts getting difficult. Next week shouldn't be too bad since Romo is a choke artist under pressure and I have a feeling Elvis will give him plenty to choke on. They haven't looked all that great so far so I think we can win that game. The next several weeks will show what we're really made of.... Deep breath..... Bring it!!
Week 2, 2009
Woohoo!! 2-0! I'm gonna enjoy this while I can!! And the MVP award goes to....... (drumroll please)...... Elvis Dumervil!!! Way to go 4 sacks!! Thank you Brandon Marshall for that stupid hold that negated a 41 yard play. Thank goodness we were still able to get the ball in the endzone (without your help, I might add) a couple of plays later. Yes, it's tough love but when he starts to act like he deserves my respect, he'll get it. Stokley made some more impressive plays.... of course! Prater, I know it was windy but you need to learn to adjust. We've got some really tough games coming up and I'm gonna be one pissed off chick if we lose by a FG because you missed one due to inclement weather. You get the same tough love as everyone else. Champ, you got burned pretty bad by Braylon Edwards on that one play, he's the drop master from last year, remember? I'll be looking for some retribution in the coming weeks.... And what a great deal Brian Dawkins has turned out to be! I had expected he would improve us and he has not let me down! Orton got some boos from the fans but I thought he had a pretty solid game. He didn't choke under pressure (like someone did against Green Bay last week, ahem.... teeheehee) and he made smart decisions by throwing the ball away when he didn't have any open receivers to throw to. I'd rather an incomplete than an interception or a sack! Overall, I'm a pretty happy camper this week... especially since San Diego lost to Baltimore!! Ahhhh what a wonderful day!! :)
Week 1, 2009
Well well well, that was an exciting 38 seconds!! I officially nominate Brandon Stokley for MVP! Glad B-Marsh showed us why he's so valuable that he needs a raise. Way to drop your first pass.... The rest of the game was pretty boring. I would have to blame the Bungles for their lack of scoring more than credit our defense because they ran us all over the field. Orton was unimpressive and nearly cost us the game by taking that sack and losing field goal range. Thank goodness for Stokley and of course the unlucky Bengal that knocked the ball up rather than down for Stokley to catch and make the play. The good thing is that at the end of the day, a W is a W is a W. Way to go 1-0!!
September, 2009
Looks like we finally got a win this preseason.... And with our third QB against Arizona, the team that lost in the Super Bowl last year. Interesting..... Maybe there is some hope after all. I gotta be honest, I love my Broncos and I will ALWAYS be a Broncos fan, but I am just not that excited about this year. Not like I have been in the past. I really hope McD can pull something out of his hat because I have seen very little to be excited about so far. I understand the concept of rebuilding and starting over and I know it takes more than one offseason but there have been several questionable decisions made. If Cutler's gonna be a big baby, then fine, I understand you don't want the drama on the team. But Orton? I was willing to keep an open mind because every player plays differently on different teams and in different situations. So far, I have seen NOTHING from him that makes me think he was a good idea. I really hope he's saving the best for the regular season..... I heard there's a Viking QB up for grabs.... Can we really go downhill from where we are?
The Broncos made final roster cuts down to 53 this weekend. Brandon Marshall is on the reserve/suspended list so someone else will go when he comes back. There have been rumors floating around that the Jets are interested in him but McDaniels says he stays. We shall see..... I say trade his cryin' ass. I'm so tired of all the spoiled brats in professional sports. Let's just get someone worth it this time!
August, 2009
Well, I must say Kyle Orton did not exactly win over any Broncos fans in our first preseason game. I could even overlook the first pick because that was a hell of a defensive play. The other two though..... not so much. On a brighter note, our defense looked good for the most part and Chris Simms looked good, especially taking over for Kyle! Rookie RB Knowshon Moreno left the game limping. So far, there is no word as to the extent of his injury.
We released RB Ryan Torain after he can't seem to get or stay healthy.
Summer, 2009
I know I've been slipping on recent news lately... sorry to those who follow my updates. I will try to be better now that I'm back on track here....
Latest news: Brandon Marshall did show up to training camp after all his whining because he didn't want to get fined. He has not participated though, sitting out due to lingering hip problems (or so he says). We have officially signed all our draft picks. Our first preseason game is scheduled for Fri, Aug 14 at San Francisco.
We released LBs Boss Bailey, Louis Green and Braxton Kelley, S Herana-Daze Jones, RB Kestahn Moore, CB Rashod Moulton, T Marcus Gordon and WR Travis Shelton. We signed WR Brandon Lloyd and 7th round draft pick C Blake Schlueter, and resigned C Casey Wiegmann to a contract extension through 2010. In May, Shannon Sharpe was elected to the Broncos Ring of Fame. WR Brandon Marshall will not be penalized by the league for his latest off-field troubles and he's now holding out for a pay raise and contract extension. Latest is that he now wants a trade. Personally, I'm not surprised since he and Cutler were really tight. I say get rid of him. Does he have great potential? YES. Can he put up great numbers? YES. But his nickname "Baby T.O." fits him in more ways than one... Last year he was second in the league in dropped passes. And if he has even one more off-field skirmish, chances are he'll be gone for the year. Should we take a chance on that? NO. Let him rot for a while. He may not even be great trade bait with all those negatives hanging over his head. We shall see....
May, 2009
The Broncos selected RB Knowshon Moreno from Georgia (12th overall) and DE/LB Robert Ayers from Tennessee (18th overall) in the 1st round, CB Alphonso Smith from Wake Forest (37th overalll), S Darcell McBath from Texas Tech (48th overall) and TE Richard Quinn from North Carolina (64th overall) in the 2nd round on day one of the NFL draft. On day two we picked up FS David Bruton from Notre Dame (114th overall) and OG Seth Olsen from Iowa (132nd overall) in the 4th round, WR Kenny McKinley from South Carolina (141st overall) in the 5th round, QB Tom Brandstater from Fresno State (174th overall) in the 6th round and C Blake Schlueter from TCU (225th overall) in the 7th round.
April, 2009
Well it's official. Crybaby Cutler is no longer a Bronco. He went to the Bears along with a 5th round draft pick for Kyle Orton and two first round draft picks, one this year and one next year. We also got a third round pick this year. Good riddance! This year should be interesting to say the least.
We re-signed unrestricted free agent DL Kenny Peterson and signed free agent DT J'Vonne Parker. We also signed unrestricted free agents G Scott Young and TE Jeb Putzier. Parker played previously with Carolina, Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas and Cleveland. Young comes from Cleveland and previously, Philly. Putzier played for the Broncos before going to Houston for two years.
We have 12 new players signed from free agency so far.... WR Jabar Gaffney; RBs Correll Buckhalter, J.J. Arrington and LaMont Jordan; QB Chris Simms; Ss Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill, CB Andre Goodman; T Ron Fields; LBs Andra Davis and Darrell Reid; and LS Lonie Paxton. We reworked Brandon Stokley's deal and will be retaining him. Broncos long time LS Mike Leach was released and TE Tony Scheffler is on the trading block. Tatum Bell, Ebenezer Ekuban, Darrell Jackson, Marlon McCree, Tom Nalen, Karl Paymah, Kenny Peterson, Michael Pittman, Jeb Putzier, Patrick Ramsey, Edell Shepherd, Nate Webster, Erik Pears and Andre Hall are all free agents on the market this offseason.
March, 2009
In some not so surprising news.... Brandon Marshall was arrested.... AGAIN.... The charges were dropped but Commissioner Goodell will probably still suspend him next year, especially after reducing his suspension last year. We could lose him for up to eight games. Obviously this guy can't keep his nose clean. Maybe he just doesn't want to play football.
February, 2009
TE Nate Jackson, DT Dewayne Robertson, S Marquand Manuel, DE John Engelberger and LBs Jamie Winborn and Niko Koutouvides were released on Monday. This wave of cuts marks the start of salary cap crunch time to get ready for the start of free agency. Robertson and Koutouvides were primarily financial moves, while the other defensive men are unlikely to fit in with the new 3-4 defensive scheme the Broncos are moving toward. We also released Dre Bly.
Jim and Jeff Goodman have both been shown the door. These guys are two of the three men that were collectively the General Manager of the Broncos. Brian Xanders will now hold that title exclusively. The Goodmans have been here for several years and orchestrated our recent successful drafts. Xander has been here for one season. Originally Bowlen said the Goodmans' jobs were safe and that he was making no changes in that department. Interesting....
The Broncos have completed new head coach Josh McDaniels coaching staff. The newest acquisition is ex-LB Roman Phifer. We are also keeping Keith Burns on. Five Broncos were released on Monday.... RBs Anthony Aldridge, P.J. Pope and Alex Haynes, TE Chad Mustard and WR Cliff Russell.
January, 2009
We hired Patriots offensive coodinator Josh McDaniels as our new head coach. Mike Nolan is our new defensive coordinator and Mike McCoy from Carolina will be our new offensive coordinator but McDaniels will be calling the plays on game day. Mike Priefer from the Chiefs will be our new special teams coach and Rick Dennison and Bobby Turner will retain their positions with the Broncos (Dennison will coach the offensive line). Adam Gase of the 49ers will coach wide receivers and Dom Capers is expected to join the Broncos in some capacity. Owner Pat Bowlen has decided not to hire a new general manager and instead will give increased duties to personnel chief Jim Goodman. Former Broncos TE Shannon Sharpe is a finalist for the 2009 Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. CB Champ Bailey is set to have surgery after tearing ligaments in his left elbow. His recovery time is estimated at three to four months.
And in perhaps the biggest news the Denver Broncos have seen in years.... BOWLEN FIRED SHANNY!!!!! I can't believe it! I really thought he was gonna be a lifer. He says unless he finds a perfect situation for '09 he's gonna take a year off and come back to coaching in 2010. Maybe Cowher will unretire and head to Denver. Wouldn't that be interesting.....
Week 17, 2008
I have three things to say...
1. PATHETIC!!!!! We didn't even make it a game. Come on!!! 52-21!!! Seriously?!?!? (I will give Tatum Bell props for having a pretty good game tho...)
2. I called this at the beginning of the season right after the win over San Diego with the botched fumble call. Go ahead, check my archives. Kinda sad how little faith I had in my team but I was right wasn't I?
3. I reiterated it even when we were 3 games up with 3 to go because we were playing like we didn't want it.
The only game this entire season we played like we really wanted it was in that comeback against Cleveland in a game we never should have been behind in. And even that was by the skin of our teeth. Look at our wins this season. With the exception of Oakland (and I'll remind you here that we went 1-1 with them), our early wins were all by the skin of our teeth after blowing big leads. Then we lose to bad teams like Jacksonville, KC, Oakland, and Buffalo in the middle of a huge skid. The only teams we lost to that we were really supposed to lose to were New England and Carolina, and I'll even throw in Miami because they had a hell of a comeback year.Honestly, I'm glad we lost so the torture of this season could be over. Here we go setting NFL records and being on the ass end of the highlight reel like we've become so good at. We are now the 1st team ever to hold the division lead 15 games and lose it at the end. We are also the 1st team to blow a 3 game division lead where all we had to do was win one game. ONE game. Aren't we proud of our boys in orange and blue?
Week 16, 2008
Two more running backs on IR this week... Selvin Young and P.J. Pope.
Well, aren't we the choke artists... We're getting quite good at it too. So it comes down to the final game at San Diego for the division title and the playoffs. I had a feeling it would. We never do anything the easy way. At this point, I don't even want to win. For what? To get pulverized by Indy like they did to us before? Two years in a row in fact. Playing like we have been that's definately going to happen so what's the point? Just to say we didn't miss the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row? Who cares. Let's just get this season over with and see if we can't get healthy for next year.
Week 15, 2008
Congrats to Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall for making the AFC Pro Bowl team!!!!
Well, I expected a tough game and a possible loss this week against Carolina although I did think we had a fighting chance because of our record away and against tough teams (see Atlanta, NY Jets, Tampa Bay, etc.) but I also expected us to put up a fight if we did lose... Needless to say I was disappointed. Selvin Young was a big dud, our defense couldn't even find Steve Smith, let alone cover him and what the hell was with those 3rd down play calls? Are you kidding me? We put together an excellent opening drive and just kinda fell apart after that! Where has Matt Prater gone? He started this season so good and now he's something like 4 for 10 in the 40s! Get your confidence back kid! We need your leg, as much for points as for momentum. And 2 more turnovers.... Do we lead the league yet? And a quick thanks to the Chiefs for doing what they do best... CHOKING!!! (except when they play us of course.)
Week 14, 2008
Congrats to Jay Cutler for winning the FedEx Air player of the week for the 2nd week in a row and to OT Ryan Clady for winning the NFL Diet Pepsi rookie of the week awards!!
Well it's official, we've lost yet ANOTHER running back (in this case a fullback!). Peyton Hillis was placed on IR with a torn right hamstring. This is getting ridiculous. Actually, it's quite beyond ridiculous!! So now we've bumped up RB Cory Boyd from the practice squad to help carry the rock this week against the Panthers. And PJ Pope should be back despite his bruised ribs so we'll see how this all plays out. We've done ok so far digging backs up out of nowhere so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!! We signed TE Jeb Putzier back to the roster (remember him?) and also another RB to the practice squad.
Talk about a nailbiter.... I was gonna be really pissed off if we got swept by the Chiefs!!! Especially after all that talk about how we weren't going to underestimate them again and we were going to play like we were the underdogs (apparently that has been our motivation in the wins we've had over tougher teams on their turf). Then again, only one turnover this week (as opposed to 4 last time) significantly helped us. And holding Larry Johnson to 36 yds helped alot too. (Hopefully he won't be a brat and throw a drink in our faces - oh yeah, there's no women on the team so we're safe....) I was especially proud of that stop on the one yard line we had that gave us our final possession... and then of course getting the firsts to run out the clock. Of course, it never should have been a difficult game but we all know how it goes with division games.... anything goes! And that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!
In playoff news.... with the Jets loss today, we got bumped up to 3rd seed in the playoffs because we beat them in the head to head. So I guess that means that if New England pulls it out (there's currently a 3-way tie for the lead in the AFC East with the Jets having the tiebreaker) that we would drop back to 4th because they beat us (assuming we had the same record of course)... And we didn't clinch the division with a win today because if we lose out and San Diego wins out we would both be 8-8 and 1-1 against each other but they still have to play Kansas City again and they would win the tiebreaker with a better division record at 5-1 (we would be 3-3). So basically we have to win next week to clinch (We would be 3 games ahead with only 2 games left in the season) or they could do us a favor and lose with the same result. We are at Carolina and they are at Kansas City so we'll see how it goes. We do play better away though, especially against tougher teams so anything's possible. If we clinch, it won't matter if they beat us the final game of the season, they can't be spoilers (although I know they desperately want to be after the fumble fiasco!!) I still maintain that they had two chances to stop us and seal the win and they didn't stop the TD or the 2 pt conversion. It wasn't our fault it was a bad call and it wasn't our fault their defense didn't hold up. And I'm definately sticking to that!!
Week 13, 2008
Congrats to Jay Cutler and Peyton Hillis for winning the FedEx Air and Ground NFL Players of the Week!!! Congrats also to Champ Bailey for being selected as the Broncos Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award recipient!!!
Woohoo!!! We beat the Jets!! (For me this was especially satisfying since the Jets are my husband's team) Way to go team!! And the sorry ass Chargers lost again, giving us a three game lead. This virtually eliminates their chances of spoiling our season in the last game. I just hope there were no serious injuries this week after they knocked out one of our guys just about every play toward the end. I noticed most of them came back in but I am worried about Peyton Hillis. That did NOT look good!! If that's a groin injury, we're screwed. And needless, since we had pretty much locked up the game so he didn't even really need to be in there....
Week 12, 2008
Well, we obviously didn't want that win. Nevermind that we're only 2 games up and if we lose the division lead there's no chance of playoffs (not that we'd go anywhere playing like that anyway). Nevermind that in a division game anything's possible. Nevermind that the Raiders were looking for some gitback after we creamed them the 1st game of the season. So we just turned over the ball two more times and missed two more field goals (seriously Prater, what's up with that?! And after such a solid start!) and put together a few solid drives but who cares if you can't get in the endzone! Blech!!! That's how I feel about that!
Week 11, 2008
Spencer Larsen was named the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week this week after his performance in our win over Atlanta where he started at FB, LB and special teams. He was also fined $5,000 for a leg whip tackle that he was not penalized for during the game. Champ practiced in a limited capacity this week and Dre Bly missed practice with the flu but he should be good to go against Oakland on Sunday. LBs Nate Webster and D.J. Williams may be back for our week 13 matchup against the Jets. We placed TE Nate Jackson on IR and replaced him with TE Chad Mustard. Geez, that guy must be dizzy from the revolving door!!! That's TEN guys on IR... That's gotta be some kind of record.... We waived RB Alex Haynes and signed S Josh Barrett from the practice squad.
Way to go!! That's two in a row!! Kudos to WR Eddie Royal for being a great all around threat... those were some great kick returns! Too bad we didn't capitalize.... Also to RB Tatum Bell for really stepping up after being out for three months. He essentially sealed the win with that final conversion for the 1st down. WR Brandon Marshall dropped more passes (shocker) and he now leads the league with the most dropped passes. Now that's a stat to be proud of... He did come through with that 57 yd catch to keep the drive alive so I will give him that. He's such a gamble though, it sucks not being able to count on him. The penalties are pissing me off though... That offsides penalty to give Atlanta a 1st down was not cool. And the false starts!! I know we're the visiting team but we should know the snap count!!! And another great day for Peyton Hillis.. 2 TDS!!! And Cutler showed me once again why I much prefer him to Jake the Snake. Woohoo!! Go Broncos!! :)
Week 10, 2008
As if our IR list isn't already as long as our regular roster..... RB Ryan Torain was placed there two weeks after his big debut. We signed RB Alex Haynes and RB Tatum Bell (remember him?) and released WR Glenn Martinez. Kudos to WR Eddie Royal who was nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week and QB Jay Cutler who was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Now THATS what I'm talking about!! Yes, we got off to a rough start (gotta give kudos to Brady Quinn for a good game tho...) but we came out in the 2nd half and played and took the momentum swing and ran with it!! Hooray to Cutler and Royal for that 93 yd TD (longest since '81) and another great effort by rookie Peyton Hillis. Glad my receivers learned to catch and also major kudos to Brandon Stokley for stopping Marshall from doing something really stupid!! I gotta tell ya, I have lost so much respect for him this year. First he's got fumble-itis, then he's got the dropsies. Next he's got diarrhea of the mouth and makes himself sound like a crybaby after Joey Porter burned him last week. And now he's about to hurt the team by doing some stupid endzone thing after he scores a TD (finally, I might add - he dropped several passes before that!). Good thing Stokley was all over him and managed to keep him under wraps. Grow up!! As for the rest of the team... good job! Part of what frustrates me so much about the losses is that we're playing below our skill level. Every one of those guys has got the potential to make great plays but it is stupid mistakes and lack of confidence that keeps killing us!! Not to mention penalties!! On a not so good note... two more guys went down tonight and it's not looking good... RB Ryan Torain was off to a decent start when he got his knee bent underneath him and left the game. Nate Webster also left and didn't return. Hopefully there won't be bad news about these guys in the next few days....
Week 9, 2008
Two latest players to be added to IR... RBs Andre Hall and Michael Pittman. LB D.J. Williams is out 4 weeks with a 3rd degree MCL injury and S Marlon McCree will be out 3 to 4 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Man they are dropping like flies aren't they? So we're losing because everyone's hurt or everyone's getting "hurt" because we suck. Cynical thought, I know, but what a mess and a disappointment we turned out to be this year. Other roster changes include: signings - DT Matthias Askew, RB Cory Boyd and LB Tyson Smith to the practice squad, and LB Mario Haggan (from Buffalo), RB P.J. Pope and DB Roderick Rogers to the active roster. We also waived TE Chad Mustard for the 167,438th time in the last two seasons.
Guess I'm sounding like a broken record here but geez.... TURNOVERS! TURNOVERS! TURNOVERS!!!! Why can't we seem to fix this? At least no one fumbled this week!! So Cutler throws THREE INTs (I think he may be competing for Brett Favre's record - did you know he threw his 300th today?)... Then when he finally figures out which team he wants to throw to, my receivers keep dropping the ball. LITERALLY! I don't think we want to win. I really don't. The only player who has been consistently good is Matt Prater, our kicker. And he missed a 40 yarder today (which I was very disappointed about) but in the grand scheme of things, he's having an awesome year and one FG wouldn't have decided the game. In fact, we shouldn't have had to settle for all those FGs if our offense could find the damn end zone! And I'm not even going to get started on the penalties!!! Are we the only team in the league that can manage to get an offensive pass interference penalty every week!?!?! They NEVER call those, yet we manage to negate a score or otherwise big play EVERY WEEK!!! And so we drop three in a row to .500. I am so beyond disgusted...
Week 8, 2008
Some recent roster moves this bye week.... We signed 7th year veteran OT Matt Murphy and WR Chad Jackson. Jackson was a 2006 New England 2nd round draft pick. We also promoted rookie CB Josh Bell from the practice squad. We still haven't promoted QB Darrell Hackney from the practice squad or signed a veteran to back up Cutler so I anticipate more roster moves before this coming Sunday vs. Miami. We added C Greg Eslinger and CB Rashod Moulton to the practice squad. We drafted Eslinger in '06 and Moulton comes to us from Jacksonville.
More great news in Broncoland... LB Boss Bailey is out for the year and will have microfracture surgery on his left knee, Champ is out 4-6 weeks with a groin injury and backup QB Patrick Ramsey was placed on IR with an injured right elbow. T Eric Pears was placed on the reserve/non football injury list after having an appendectomy.
Week 7, 2008
I thought we went over the turnover issue last week. So now we're at 13 in the last 4 weeks and surprise, surprise... we've dropped 3 out of 4. That game was horrendous. I'm kinda glad I had to work and ended up missing most of it because I am so disgusted with my team right now. Cutler, this is not the way to back up that comment you made about your arm being stronger than Elway's. And even if it is, isn't accuracy more important than strength? Yeah, I thought so.... Oh and don't get me started on the defense. I thought we were making strides. I obviously thought wrong... And the crazy part is that we still lead the division by one game because San Diego is more of a disappointment than we are, namely because people had faith in them at the beginning of the season.
Week 6, 2008
Way to go guys.... Three more turnovers for 10 points... Too bad we only lost by 7. And wouldn't it be nice if we could have capitalized on the turnovers we got? The first we turned right back over and the second we went 3 and out. Great job. Did you know we are 2nd in the league with the most fumbles lost? Here's another stat for ya... we're also 2nd in the league with the most dropped passes. Now that's something to be proud of.
WR Brandon Stokley is a maybe to play Monday night at New England. He suffered a concussion Sunday against the Jags.
Week 5, 2008
Congrats to Shanny on his 150th win!!! Congrats also to K Matt Prater for being named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week!!
Way to go!! Our defense looks like it's finally getting it together. I think they did great (with the exception of that scoring drive by Tampa Bay in the 4th quarter). Where did our offense go though? It wasn't a bad effort but we negated some great plays with stupid penalties!!! Way to go Cutler for all that scrambling... He got three 1st downs (one was negated by a holding penalty). Either way, a W is a W... Plus San Diego lost to Miami (heeheehee) so we're back to 2 games up in the top spot!! :)
It looks like WR Eddie Royal and TE Tony Scheffler will be out next game against Jacksonville. Royal suffered a high ankle sprain and Scheffler has a groin injury. RB Selvin Young also has a groin injury and it's unclear whether he will play as well.
Week 4, 2008
Well, I guess when your whole team plays like crap, you deserve to lose.... I mean come on guys, FOUR TURNOVERS!?!?!?! Granted, there were some flashes of brilliance but overall, we looked bad. My big issue this week is why doesn't our defense play the ball? Our defenders let them catch every ball!!! And this is every week, I might add... It's not enough to prevent YAC.... If they catch the ball, they still move the chains!!! This week wasn't even about running out of luck, it was about not even showing up to play!! And so we lose to the 0-3 Chiefs... Way to go guys... But yes, I still love ya.
We placed WR Clifford Russell on IR with a sprained neck and resigned WR Glenn Martinez.
Week 3, 2008
What's with the heart attack every week again this year? At least our offense is scoring points, although this weeks performance was not quite as good as the last two... Special teams looked better this week which is great!! Defense however..... they made some great plays but the inconsistency.... Thank you Martin for choking, we really appreciate it!
Congrats to Coach Mike Shanahan for winning coach of the week for week 2 with that risky 2 point conversion call for the win!!
Week 2, 2008
Ok, so I admit that was a superbad call by the officials and Cutler most certainly fumbled the ball (What the hell was that anyway?!?!), but I'm gonna take that gift if it means a W over San Diego and Phillip cry me a Rivers... What happened to us? We started off so strong and it's like we went into the locker room at halftime and the Raiders came back out!!! Our offense sucked, our defense sucked... And on top of that San Diego found their game and their weapon in Sproles who ran ALL OVER us!!! We deserved to lose that game, giving up the lead that we had. It was a nice little effort at the end though (if you don't count Cutler pulling a Plummer) and I especially liked the 2 pointer. No one ever said Shanny doesn't have balls!!! So for now I'm going to bask in my 2-0 and the Chargers 0-2. God knows what we're gonna have waiting for us when redemption time comes around in San Diego last game of the season!!!
Congrats to WR Brandon Marshall for winning AFC offensive player of the week for week 2!!! We traded WR Keary Colbert to Seattle for a conditional 2009 draft pick. We signed WR Clifford Russell to fill the vacant roster spot. Can someone please explain to me how Cutler's fumble is on the stat books as a sack for San Diego? He was never touched!!! That is ludicrous!!
Week 1, 2008
What a game!!! Of course it was against the sorry Raiders... and you know I loved EVERY SECOND!!! Cutler looked great in the debut and how about Eddie Royal for rookie of the week!!! These guys have got me so excited about this season!!! :) And I just loved watching the Raiders throw their temper tantrums when things weren't going their way.... Five personal fouls!!! Congrats to TE Tony Scheffler also for his career high 72 yd catch.
We cut G Dylan Gandy to make way for WR Brandon Marshall's return from a one game suspension. We signed LB D.J. Williams to a 5 year contract extension. Al Wilson is now officially retired from the NFL. My condolences go out to RB Andre Hall who lost his mother on Monday. C Tom Nalen returned to practice Wednesday after missing all of the preseason and much of training camp with knee pain.
September, 2008
Team captains were selected for the season... QB Jay Cutler and TE Daniel Graham for the offense and CB Champ Bailey and LB D.J. Williams for the defense. The special teams captain changes weekly. LS Mike Leach is the man for the season opener at Oakland.
In addition to the final cutdown to 53, the Broncos have made several recent roster moves. S Josh Barrett, G Mitch Erickson, QB Darrell Hackney, DT Steven Harris and S Roderick Rogers were all signed to the practice squad. Rogers was later released and DE Ryan McBean (Pittsburgh), RB P.J. Pope (Chicago/Green Bay) and WR Travis Wilson (Cleveland) were added. We claimed S Calvin Lowry off waivers from Tennessee and signed G Dylan Gandy and DT Josh Shaw who was most recently released by Oakland to the team. We also traded CB Domonique Foxworth to Atlanta for an seventh round 2009 draft pick. That position could improve based on Foxy's play. We released T Alvin McKinley.
Final cuts were made to get the roster down to the 53 man team. Among those waived were QB Darrell Hackney; WRs Glenn Martinez, Marquay McDaniel and Clifford Russell; TE Chad Mustard; Gs P.J. Alexander, Dylan Gandy and Mitch Erickson; DEs Larry Birdine and Paul Carrington; DT Steven Harris; LB Jordan Beck; CBs Wale Dada and Tyrone Poole; Ss Josh Barrett and Vickiel Vaughn and P Sam Paulescu. We placed TE Brett Pierce on the waived/injured list and FB Cecil Sapp and RB Anthony Aldridge on the reserve/injured list.
There are several new rules in the NFL this season, the biggest of which is the repeal of the forceout rule. They also took away the incidental 5 yd face mask penalty but the 15 yd personal foul face mask is still in effect and will be enforced strictly. One defensive player will now be allowed to wear a headset in addition to one offensive player, designated by the green dots. Field goals and extra points are now reviewable and muffed handoffs are now fumbles, allowing the defense to recover and advance the ball.
August, 2008
We won our fourth preseason game at Arizona 28-14. QB Darrell Hackney hit WR Keary Colbert for an 87 yd TD and CB Jack Williams had an 89 yd INT return for a TD, both in the 4th quarter. We went 2-2 in the preseason this year. WR Brandon Marshall's suspension has been reduced to one game. We traded G Montrae Holland to Dallas for a 5th round pick in the 2010 draft because of weight issues. We released WRs Samie Parker and Taylor Jacobs and waived DE Josh Mallard and WR Lorne Sam. We also placed DT Carlton Powell on the PUP list.
DE Elvis Dumervil and S Marquand Manuel are both set to have hand surgery after injuries during the 27-24 loss to the Packers. Both should be ready for the regular season opener. The Bailey brothers are making good progress after minor injuries. Peyton Hillis is also back to practice. Tom Nalen will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and so will almost certainly miss the opener.
We beat the Cowboys in our preseason home opener 23-13. We scored touchdowns on our 1st two drives and Prater kicked three more FGs this week. He again went 3 for 4. WRs Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall made big catches and Marshall and RB Andre Hall scored the 2 TDs. Our defense stood well, holding the Cowboys to 4 of 12 third down conversions. Rookie CB Jack Williams saved a Cowboys TD attempt with an interception that he almost ran all the way back but was tripped up at the last second by Cowboys QB Richard Bartel.
Latest scoop is John Lynch is a Patriot. We play them October 20. We signed first year CB Wale Dada and veteran DB Tyrone Poole and waived CBs Lamont Reid and Christian Morton.
The teams' first depth chart was released Monday.
We lost our preseason opener at Houston 19-16 in the final seconds but new K Matt Prater got plenty of practice with 3 FGs of 38, 36 and 26 yds. He missed a 30 yarder. QB Jay Cutler scored the only Broncos TD with a 15 yd scramble. LB Louis Green had to be taken off the field on a stretcher with a neck injury and a concussion. He was held out of practice Monday with a neck bruise and weakness in his left arm. LB Boss Bailey suffered a sprained right ankle and is on crutches this week. Rookie Eddie Royal started at wide receiver and returned kicks. Rookie Ryan Clady started at left tackle. OL Montrae Holland was back at practice this week after being held out due to weight issues. G Dylan Gandy dislocated a finger at practice Monday and TE Chad Mustard is slowly returning to workouts after knee surgery. He is currently on the PUP list. C Tom Nalen (knee), CB Champ Bailey (hamstring) and T Erik Pears (back) have all missed recent practices.
Ex-Bronco Gary Zimmerman was enshrined in the Hall of Fame Saturday. He joins John Elway as only the second Bronco in the Hall. S John Lynch has asked for and been granted a release from the team to pursue other options, one of which may be retirement. He has been replaced on the roster by S Vickiel Vaughn who was waived earlier this summer. Rod Smith officially announced his retirement from the NFL but wants to remain involved with the team in some capacity. Good luck to both of you!!!! We mourn the loss of two great team leaders!!
WR Brandon Marshall has been suspended for the first three games of the season due to off-field legal troubles. The suspension can be reduced to two games if he agrees to counseling. Rookie RB Ryan Torain will undergo surgery this week on a dislocated left elbow. He also sustained ligament damage and is expected to be out three months. CB Champ Bailey is nursing a sore hamstring. We released RB Mike Bell who has since signed with the Texans (surprise surprise). G Chris Kuper broke a bone in his hand during practice. We signed all our rookies in time for the start of training camp. G Montrae Holland is being held out of camp due to being overweight. LB Boss Bailey missed 2 days of practice with a sore knee. Both FB Peyton Hillis and RB Michael Pittman are back to practice after missing time with hamstring injuries. S Hamza Abdullah has missed time with a sore groin and C Tom Nalen has missed several days now with knee pain. WR Edell Shepherd has been placed on IR with a torn left ACL. TE Chad Mustard and DT Carlton Powell have been placed on the PUP list prior to camp. Mustard is recovering from hamstring surgery and is expected to be out for 8 weeks. Powell is out for the season with a right Achilles tendon injury during offseason workouts.
July, 2008
We signed 4 more rookies to the team. FB Peyton Hillis, RB Ryan Torain, DE Carlton Powell and LB Spencer Larson were picked in the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds. They join S Josh Barrett as 5 of the 9 draftees who have signed. And... shocker of all shockers.... Travis Henry tested positive for pot AGAIN, apparently before we let him go. The team says they had no knowledge of this prior to his release. Only the player and the players union are notified, the team is not notified due to confidentiality agreements.
June, 2008
Recent news.... We finally cut Travis Henry!! Woohoo!!!! It's about damn time!!! We signed S Josh Barrett to a 3 yr deal. He is the first of our draft picks to sign. WR Brandon Marshall will be cleared to participate fully on June 22 following the arm injury he suffered in March while horseplaying with family. We released 6 players on Thursday.... QB Cullen Finnerty, P Danny Baugher, WR Taylor Jacobs, LB Brandon Archer, DE Julian Jenkins and S Vickiel Vaughn.
May, 2008
QB Jay Cutler was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. He says the disease is manageable and will not affect his play.
We drafted nine players at nine different positions this year.... T Ryan Clady, Boise State (Round-1, Overall Pick-12); WR Eddie Royal, Virginia Tech (R-2, OP-42); C Kory Lichtensteiger, Bowling Green (R-4, OP-108); CB Jack Williams, Kent State (R-4, OP-119); RB Ryan Torain, Arizona State (R-5, OP-139); DT Carlton Powell, Virginia Tech (R-5, OP-148); LB Spencer Larsen, Arizona (R-6, OP-183); S Josh Barrett, Arizona State (R-7, OP-220); and FB Peyton Hills, Arkansas (R-7, OP-227). We also signed seven college free agents.... RB Anthony Aldridge (Houston), G/T Mitch Erickson (South Dakota State), K Garrett Hartley (Oklahoma), P Brett Kern (Toledo), T Tyler Polumbus (Colorado), WR Lorne Sam (Texas-El Paso), and LB Wesley Woodyard (Kentucky). To make room we waived seven players.... DT Michael Bozeman, S Steve Cargile, G Mark Fenton, FB Steven Jackson, LB William Kershaw, FB Paul Smith and RB Marquis Weels.
The Broncos have officially released the 2008 season schedule!! We open with the late game Monday night, Sept. 8 at Oakland, just one of our three prime time games. Click here to see the entire schedule.
Latest roster shakeups.... We cut DT Antwon Burton, Chad Upshaw and WR Derrick Hamilton. We signed WR Samie Parker from the Chiefs to a one year deal and P Danny Baugher. We also signed free agent WR Darrell Jackson from San Fransisco. We acquired DT Dewayne Robertson from the Jets for a conditional draft pick in 2009 and waived C Norm Katnik.
Gary Zimmerman has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame... Congrats Gary!!!!!! He has chosen Broncos owner Pat Bowlen to present to him.
April, 2008
We lost Jason Elam to Atlanta after 16 years. We signed free agent OL Casey Weigmann to a 2 year deal. He comes to us from KC. FB Cecil Sapp has resigned with us to a one year deal and a substantial pay cut. He received higher offers elsewhere but wanted to remain in Denver. We traded G/C Chris Myers to the Texans for a 6th round draft pick. That leaves us with Ben Hamilton who is returning from a concussion that kept him out all of last year. We now have nine draft picks this year.
February/March, 2008
We made an offer to FB Cecil Sapp to return. He says he wants to stay in Denver and will decide soon between us and 3 other teams. K Jason Elam is visiting with Atlanta this week. Elam is originally from Georgia and the Falcons would be his second choice after Denver. Elam does not kick off, which limits his value, but the Falcons wouldn't need him to do so. We fired General Manager Ted Sundquist after 16 years with the team. We signed LB Boss Bailey (Champ's brother) to a 5 year, $17.5 million deal. He comes to us from Detroit. In addition, we signed safeties Marlon McCree and Marquand Manuel. We also signed WR Edell Shepherd who has some special teams experience, and we resigned DE Ebenezer Ekuban. Other new players include WR Keary Colbert from the Panthers and LB Niko Koutouvides from the Seahawks, each with three year contracts.
Non free agency news... CB Domonique Foxworth has been named to the executive board of the NFL players union. The team also laid off eight non-player personnel from the organization, including Andrew Mason, who was the main face of Broncos news for the past six years.
We released LB Ian Gold and WR Javon Walker. Walker went to the Raiders with a six year, $55 million contract. K Jason Elam, FB Cecil Sapp, S Nick Ferguson, and TE Stephen Alexander are all free agents. S John Lynch has decided he wants to play one more season and he will remain with the Broncos after taking a pay cut. CBs Domonique Foxworth and Karl Paymah, S Hamza Abdullah and C/G Chris Myers are all restricted free agents this offseason. We have tender offers on all four, meaning we'll get draft pick compensation if they choose to sign elswhere (third rounders for Foxworth and Paymah, sixth for Myers and seventh for Abdullah). WR Brandon Stokley's signing bonus has been reworked to free up $3 million in salary cap room. We resigned both DE John Engelberger and TE Nate Jackson to 2 year deals. We waived T Doug Neinhuis and named Jedd Fisch from the Ravens as our new wide receivers coach.
We have come to an agreement and a restructured contract that will keep RB Travis Henry in Denver. He will share carries with Selvin Young. Henry says he wants to make it right in Denver after a controversial and mostly unproductive year in 2007. We may still consider a free agent back as well. We also reworked CB Dre Bly's contract. S John Lynch is still considering retirement. DE Ebenezer Ekuban has been offered a contract to return but is considering free agency. We released both Paul Ernster and Todd Sauerbrun, leaving Sam Paulescu in the punter slot.
Broncos and AFL co-founder Bob Howsam passed away Monday at the age of 89. T Matt Lepsis and WR Rod Smith have been placed on the reserve/retired list. We waived WR Carlton Brewster from the practice squad and released LB Warrick Holdman. We claimed LB Brandon Archer off waivers from Indy, signed WR Derrick Hamilton and LB William Kershaw. We named Jeff Goodman Assistant General Manager.
January, 2008
Latest team news... John Lynch and Champ Bailey will be representing the Broncos in the Pro Bowl this year. John Lynch was upgraded from alternate after Bob Sanders was injured and will not play. Gary Zimmerman and Randy Gradishar were both nominated for the 2008 class of the Hall of Fame. Defensive Coordinator Jim Bates has resigned after declining a demotion. Bob Slowik was promoted from defensive backs coach to take his place. Assistant Head Coach Mike Heimerdinger will be heading to Tennessee to run their offense. This will give Quarterbacks/Receivers coach Jeremy Bates an increased role in our offense. Congrats to DE John Engelberger for winning the team's Ed Block Courage Award. T Matt Lepsis announced his retirement after 11 years. S John Lynch is also contemplating retirement after 15 years. WR Rod Smith may need hip replacement surgery which would almost certainly end his career. WR Brandon Marshall became the third player in NFL history to get over 100 catches in his second season. K Jason Elam is a free agent after this year but he hopes to stay in Denver. We signed 16 players to future contracts and they'll be added to the roster after the Super Bowl. Of those, seven were on our active roster or practice squad during the 2007 season.
Week 17, 2007
Okay, I'm glad we went out with a win, even though we almost blew it again. And I'm glad that we are 7-9 instead of 6-10. That just seems like a huge gap to me. Plus Shanny's only other losing season was the year after Elway retired and we went 7-9 then too. It would have sucked to go lower than that...
So.... another season with no trip to the playoffs. Yes, we had tons of players on IR but we should have had depth to back them up. At least we have young players with a lot of potential for next year. As far as Cutler is concerned, I think he's better than that, he just needs a better supporting cast, whether these guys get better or we get some new guys. Not that he's perfect, but I think he'll get better with a line that gives him more time and more protection. New Defensive Coordinator anyone? PLEASE!!!! And get rid of Travis Henry, he's more trouble than he's worth. Selvin Young and Andre Hall definately stepped up when Henry was out.
Week 16, 2007
**Congrats to Champ Bailey for being named a Pro Bowl starter!!!**
We released P Todd Sauerbrun after this latest off field disruption where he was accused of drunkenly roughing up a cabbie and refusing to pay his fare. He has had previous problems, including a 4 game suspension last year for ephedra use. We resigned P Paul Ernster to take his place. Other moves include waiving S Marviel Underwood and promoting S Roderick Rogers from the practice squad. We signed K Matt Prater from Miami's practice squad and put S Nick Ferguson on IR.
Week 15, 2007
And once again, another disappointment on Thursday.... It's such a tease - we win a great one and then lose a stupid one, then right back through the cycle. We forced Green Bay to overtime even though we lost but then got smashed by the Texans who are really just reincarnated Broncos anyway! And San Diego keeps winning so that does it for us. At this point I don't even want to go to the playoffs because it's just another opportunity to get humiliated. Can we just beat San Diego on Christmas Eve!?!?! That's all I want for Christmas, and only for the reason that we owe them one.
Week 14, 2007
It's about time we dished out what we've been given twice this year!!! And it couldn't have happened to a better team!!! I've got my broom out Chiefs fans!!! SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!! Okay, I'm done gloating.... We looked good out there. We stopped the run, the air attack and the Chiefs in general... And we scored and scored and scored!! Unfortunately, the Chargers pulled it out in the end so we're still two games back... Now if we can just play like that Christmas Eve.... that'd be some sweet revenge!! We signed Brandon Stokley to a 3 year contract extension before the game and he definately showed us why that was a good decision.
Week 13, 2007
**Congrats to CB Domonique Foxworth for winning the Broncos 2007 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award!!**
Not a shocker that we lost to Oakland, it being a division rivalry and they gave us hell the first game. Once again turnovers killed us. Travis Henry won his appeal and will continue to be a Bronco. Honestly, I'm happy with Selvin Young and Andre Hall. It's not like reefer is the only problem Henry has. We waived Sam Adams and Jeff Shoate, replacing them with DT Steven Harris and S Marviel Underwood. Can we at least end the season at .500? 9-7 was bad enough!
Week 12, 2007
We could have won that game. I said at halftime that we were going to lose the game and the people around me told me to stop being so pessimistic. I said I'm being realistic. Even after we built up a 14 point lead I was still certain we'd find a way to blow it. And we did. Not that I don't love my team, because I do. But I am so damn disappointed in them this year. We should have won that game yesterday. Cutler threw for 300+ yds, Scheffler had that stellar TD catch, Andre Hall had 167 total yds. The O-line held up fairly well. But we couldn't convert on 3rd down to save our lives or the game and we killed ourselves in turnovers!! I'd be seriously surprised if Mike Bell isn't looking for a job soon. And while I'm at it, is there anyone stupid enough to let Devin Hester return not one, but TWO kicks for a TD? Apparently there is. We knew BEFORE the game that he was a mean threat there so there's not much of an excuse for kicking it to him in the first place. But even after he burned us the first time we continued to kick the ball to him? Can someone please explain this to me? I guess we are just determined to be on the humiliating end of someone else's highlight reel every single week. And I'm also seriously miffed about that bad call by the refs in the 3rd quarter. Abdullah tackled Grossman and he fumbled the ball and then Abdullah picked it up and ran with it but the refs whistled the play dead so he stopped running. There's no question he'd have been gone and that would have been a TD. But because the whistle blew, he stopped running. Yes, we won the challenge and we got the fumble recovery but then they spotted the ball at the point of the fumble even though we recovered and ran with it. That seems seriously wrong to me... at least give us the yardage that he managed to get before the refs stopped the play!! The Chargers won yesterday so that hurts us in the standings. But who am I kidding? We're not winning it all this year so what's the point? I still love my team, but the Broncos are making it more and more difficult to look forward to Sundays.
Week 11, 2007
We released G Isaac Snell and picked up FB Kyle Johnson this week. Johnson played for us from '02 - '06. We released him at the start of this season but we definately need him now due to all the injuries to our running backs!
Yeah!! We won two in a row!! I never thought I'd be this happy to be at .500!!! Unfortunately I missed the first half of the game due to unforseen circumstances but I did see the second half and I caught the highlights. Good job Cutler for a 137.0 passer rating. Way to go Glenn Martinez for that 80 yd runback for a TD. I was not pleased however with the turnover later on when he didn't catch that kick. He won the AFC Special Teams Player of the week. Congrats also to Andre Hall on his 1st ever NFL TD, and for 62 yards at that! In fact, all 4 of our TDs were for 41 yds or more!! But what was the deal with the timeouts for points? I've heard of turnovers for scores but not timeouts... That was just weird. But we won anyway and it was solid play so I'm happy. And Tennessee was the last team we have to play with a winning record (not that that really means anything in the world of any given Sunday). Next up... Da Bears in Chi-Town. Bring it!!!
Week 10, 2007
Way to go guys... We actually looked like a decent football team! Selvin Young got 109 yds and a TD and Elam must have been feeling alright because he booted a 44 and a 50 yarder. And the defense looked pretty good with 4 sacks and 4 turnovers... Too bad San Diego won so we're still a game back... By the way, that was a crazy game!! I can't believe Vinatieri missed that last kick... It would have been a 29 yd game winner!!
We added DE Kenny Peterson to our active roster this week after releasing him last month following a 4 month suspension for a steroid policy violation. We released DT Antwon Burton and also added TE Chad Upshaw to our practice squad to fill the vacancy after promoting QB Darrell Hackney to the active roster.
Week 9, 2007
Jason Elam is questionable for the game against KC with a calf injury. Travis Henry and John Lynch will be game time decisions as well. Cutler is listed as probable. Latest changes with the revolving door that is the Broncos roster.... WR Brian Clark, CB/S Curome Cox and DT Amon Gordon were released Tuesday to make room for WR Taylor Jacobs, DE Josh Mallard, DE Paul Carrington, and DE Larry Birdine. We also released DE Simeon Rice.
Well that was embarassing.... AGAIN! What is with these guys? What's with the dropped passes and the fumbles?!?! Where is the team spirit and the heart that made me fall in love with this team in the 1st place? I realize that virtually my entire team is different than last year and that half of the team is either on IR or might as well be but this is ridiculous. Not to discount the Lions because they look good this year but there is no excuse for pathetic play. Seriously, the Chargers beat us 41-3 and their record is 4-4 and they got creamed by the Vikings!!! At least our entire division lost so that helps us in the standings... Honestly, as if it really even matters... We have to go to KC next week!!! So are we gonna stand up and fight like when we came back and beat the Steelers? Or are we gonna just roll over again. I tell ya... I never miss a Broncos game. Lately, I just can't help but shake my head and I find my attention wandering to the other games on. C'mon guys!!! Bring back that Broncos Fever!!!
On the injury note, both Cutler and Henry suffered leg injuries in the game against the Lions but both insist it's nothing serious. Cutler missed the second half and Henry part of the 4th quarter.
Week 8, 2007
Latest in injuries on our already bruised and battered team.... John Lynch is hopeful about playing against the Lions this week after suffering a pinched nerve last Monday night. On a bad note, DE Jarvis Moss is out for the season after fracturing his right fibula in practice. Rod Smith will not be activated from the PUP list because he will not be able to play in the next two weeks. He returned to practice last week but said he would only return if he felt he could contribute to the team.
I should have known by the fact that Brett Favre has already broken so many records this year that he would continue to do so in Denver. We hung in there and we fought and I can't be mad about losing to a good team and playing a good game. I think we should have been able to score on that last play before overtime. I also think that fumble on the one yard line was needless. Both of those things cost us and because of that we lost. Next week we go to Detroit, who is proving to be a formidable opponent this year.
Week 7, 2007
This Monday night we'll be looking for our 3rd consecutive Monday Night win. It will be the Packers first ever appearance at Invesco Field. Green Bay has never won, and Brett Favre has never thrown a TD pass in Denver. Green Bay is coming off their bye following a 17-14 win over Washington. The kickoff will be 40 minutes earlier because of the possibility of a Game 5 in the World Series also in Denver that night.
Good news!! Rod Smith practiced with the team on Wednesday for the first time since his hip surgery. The Broncos have three weeks left to add him to the roster or place him on IR.
Now THAT looked like my boys of old!!! THAT was my team!! Now don't get me wrong... I'm with my team whether we're 16-0 or 0-16 but it is really difficult to watch your team play horribly when you know there's so much more talent than what they're producing!!! We FINALLY got it together and played like we WANTED it!!! That's what I want to see!! Plus I'm always happy to knock Pitt down a peg or two.... especially after that AFC Championship game 2 years ago.
Week 6, 2007
TE Stephen Alexander has been placed on IR with a calf injury. We resigned TE Chad Mustard, who has been on and off with us all season. Mustard has played both tackle and tight end for us. WR Javon Walker will undergo surgery on his knee and will be out for at least 6 weeks. Meanwhile, WR Rod Smith is eligible to practice with the team. He has three more weeks to be added to the roster or placed on IR. Chris Myers will step in to fill the center position vacated by Tom Nalen. We signed free agent LB Jordan Beck and released LB D.D. Lewis. Beck was released by Atlanta following training camp. Champ Bailey will be a gametime decision this Sunday vs. Pittsburgh because of a quad injury.
Week 5, 2007
Both C Tom Nalen and TE Nate Jackson are out for the season with injuries, Nalen with a torn biceps muscle and Jackson with a torn groin. CB Champ Bailey has a quad injury but should be fine for Pittsburgh in two weeks. We signed free agent G P.J. Alexander to the team. He was with the Broncos from 2003 through the 2006 preseason. He was released after he tore his ACL off the field. We also added G Isaac Snell from Tennessee's practice squad.
Week 4, 2007
WOW!! We suck so bad that CBS changed the coverage of the game at the start of the 4th quarter. It is damn hard to be a Broncos fan right now.... Well, the good news is the rest of our division sucks too so if we can pull it together we still have a chance. These turnovers are killing us!
I don't think I need to mention here how disgusted I am about Travis Henry and this latest drug test... Because obviously he thinks the team doesn't need him. Supposedly there's a perfect explanation but everyone is all hush hush so we'll just have to wait and see. He will be playing this week (as long as he feels good - knee/ankle injuries). John Lynch will play as well but Javon Walker will not.
We waived WR Domenik Hixon after his special teams performance was less than stellar (he averaged 4.6 yds on punt returns and 22.8 yds on kick returns) and resigned WR Brian Clark after waiving him Saturday. We also promoted WR Glenn Martinez and S Steve Cargile from the practice squad. We signed WR Marquay McDaniel and WR Carlton Brewster to the practice squad.
Week 3, 2007
Well, I expected a loss this week although I definately think we had a chance to win. We started out well but those turnovers are gonna kill us, especially to teams like the Colts!! We've got a tough schedule this year and if we don't hang on to the ball it's over!! I think having John Lynch and Javon Walker out hurt us this week but that's the way it goes. We sure tried to break up their whole team!! All I can say is thank God the rest of our division is sucking as badly as we are... We're all tied for 1st at 2-2 (except the pooperchargers who are at 1-3). Heeheehee. I'm not nearly as worried about that game next week as I was a couple of weeks ago. It is still a division game though so we better bring it to win it!!!
The Broncos placed G Ben Hamilton on IR after his recovery has not improved since a concussion suffered during training camp.
Week 2, 2007
I really can't get mad when we lose if we play well. I really can get mad when we play like we did this week. The whole team was far less than stellar, especially when we really needed a big play. Like Brandon Marshall dropping that pass (and he was wide open!!), and Cutler throwing an INT on the final play when we needed to get down the field and could have tied the game with a TD and a 2 point conversion. We have Indy and San Diego the next 2 weeks... If we play like that, we're gonna get CREAMED!
Week 2, 2007
*Congrats to Jason Elam for being named NFL Special Teams Player of the Week!!*
Once again, that was a close one!! I found it ironic that the Raiders safety was delivered by ex-Bronco Gerard Warren, whom we let go a few weeks ago. That game was a little too close but I can't fault Cutler for that second INT that put the Raiders up by 3... That was just good defensive pass coverage that tipped the ball. And that psych out that Shanny pulled.... Man!! THAT is why I love him!! Did you see that smirk when the second kick bounced off the uprights and out!?!?! I thought I was gonna have a heart attack... Then 3 and out with 1st possession in OT!! I'm not gonna live to see this whole season if we keep playing games like these last two!! All in all, I think we played well and kudos to our dynamic CB duo and rookie Marcus Thomas with one pick apiece!! Sorry about the delay in game updates so far... I plan on having them both up by the end of this week!!
*Congrats to Terrell Davis for his induction into the Broncos Ring of Fame!!*
Week 1, 2007
My thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin Everett of the Bills. The latest update is that he has shown some movement in his arms and legs and the doctors feel there is a good chance he'll walk again. I can't wait for our home opener this week against the Raiders!!! Raider Haters!!!!
Three days after resigning T Chad Mustard, who was originally cut at the second wave of roster cuts, the Broncos waived him again to make room for LB Jamie Winborn. Winborn was drafted by San Fran in 2001, then spent 2005 with the Jags and 2006 with the Bucs. He was released by them on Sept 1st.
What a nailbiter of a game! First the missed 2-point conversion (Oh Javon you shoulda had that!!), then Jason Elam's 2 missed field goals! But he redeemed himself in the final seconds and I was loving it. This is our first season opening win in 3 years as we lost to St. Louis last year and Miami in 2005, both away games. I get so excited about the first game of the season every year, especially when we win!!! Preseason just isn't the same feeling. Congrats boys for starting off 1-0!!
On Monday we signed DE Simeon Rice to a one year deal. He comes to us from Tampa Bay and is a 3 time Pro Bowler. We released LB Wesly Mallard and T Adam Meadows and signed T Chad Mustard. Mustard was originally a TE for us but moved over to tackle during training camp.
August/September, 2007
The team will be wearing a decal on their helmets this year in memory of our 2 recently fallen players - #27 Darrent Williams and # 29 Damien Nash.
The Broncos waived 21 players and moved DE Kenny Peterson to the reserve/suspended list to shave the roster down to the regular season 53 man limit. Waived players - G Emmanuel Akah, CB Bill Alford, DL John Browning, S Steve Cargile, C Greg Eslinger, C Mark Fenton, QB Darrell Hackney, DT Steven Harris, LB T.J. Hollowell, CB Kevin House, FB Kyle Johnson, DT Jimmy Kennedy, WR Glenn Martinez, G Kevin McAlmont, WR Marquay McDaniel, WR Quincy Morgan, T Chad Mustard, QB Preston Parsons, S Roderick Rogers, LB Cameron Vaughn, and T Cliff Washburn. We signed Cargile, Eslinger, Fenton, Hackney, Harris, Martinez, Rogers and Washburn to the practice squad.
The first round of NFL cuts came around this week and the Broncos were required to reduce their roster to 75. We waived 10 players and placed WR Rod Smith on the reserve/PUP list. Waived players - RB Cedric Cobbs, P Paul Ernster, FB Troy Fleming, S Quentin Harris, TE Teyo Johnson, WR David Kircus, DE Kenard Lang, K Brandon Pace, WR David Terrell, and DT Demetrin Veal. We have until Saturday to reduce the roster to the regular season 53 player limit. We also placed T Doug Nienhuis and CB Lamont Reid to the reserve/NFL-Europa injured list.
So... I've got a new page up on this site with some new stats. Click here if you're interested in the Broncos all time record series vs. their opponents.
The Broncos have released the first official depth chart for the 2007 season!!
I didn't get to watch the game or the replay on NFL Network so I really have nothing to offer in the way of opinions about this latest loss except to say I can't believe we lost to Cleveland at home. All I can say is I hope we're holding all our cards close and that we're gonna break out of the gate this season. Because we've got a ton of talent. We just need to pull it all together.
The Broncos finally worked out a trade for DT Gerard Warren. He is going to Oakland for a fifth round 2008 draft pick, assuming he makes the team. Warren struggled with injuries last year and is not a good fit for Jim Bates new defensive scheme. He did not travel with the team to either of the first two preseason games this year. We signed DL John Browning, formerly with the Chiefs. He was on IR last year with a back injury. We released T Jacob Rogers. RB Cedric Cobbs is back with the Broncos after being released after the draft. With 3 of our backs hurt, we need the extra depth. Cobbs had a stellar preseason last year but was injured in Week 2 and his performance suffered. Rod Smith is looking better every day. Shanahan's prediction for his return is between Weeks 6 and 8.
Well that game sucked... We played like crap! I missed alot of it because I was working but I did see Ramsey's 90 yd TD pass to Brian Clark so kudos to that!! And also to Dre Bly for his 1st pick as a Bronco!! Ebenezer Ekuban is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon. Both he and LB Warrick Holdman have been placed on IR. Holdman suffered a spinal cord concussion after a collision in practice Aug 2. Travis Henry suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee. His MRI promised nothing to worry about. Curome Cox (shoulder) and Mike Bell (hip) may also miss a week or two with injuries suffered in the game.
The Broncos practiced jointly with the Cowboys this week before their 2nd preseason game coming up on Saturday. Among those not making the trip... OTs Jacob Rogers (left knee) and Ryan Harris (back) and G Ben Hamilton (concussion). DT Alvin McKinley did not make the trip because his wife is due to have a baby. OT Matt Lepsis (groin) and WR David Kircus (hamstring) practiced on a limited basis and WR Brandon Stokely (thigh) has not practiced but instead did some conditioning work. WR Brandon Marshall (quad) returned punts after 2 weeks off. TE Chad Mustard filled in as a reserve OT this week due to player injuries. He even changed his number from 85 to 71.
Congrats to our boys on a 17-14 win in the preseason opener at San Francisco. A little gitback from last year's game that knocked us out of the playoffs on New Year's Eve was in order.... Too bad it was only preseason though....
Several roster changes have taken place this last month... We released S Sam Brandon after he failed his physical (knee). We signed all four of our draft picks so there were no holdouts when training camp started July 29th. We signed LB Wesley Mallard and DE Kenny Peterson. We placed DE Carlos Hall on the reserve/did not report list. We waived LB Eddie Moore after he failed his physical. He cleared waivers and reverted to our IR list. Mike Lombardi is our new personnel assistant, having been with Oakland for the last 8 seasons.
As for injuries... WR Rod Smith is still recovering from off season hip surgery and has not participated in any team practices. According to Shanny there is no timetable for his return but he is determined to play this season. TE Tony Scheffler is still recovering from a fractured left foot. WR Brandon Stokely says he feels great and is running at near full speed after surgery on his Achilles tendon. Rookie DE Jarvis Moss gave us all a scare when he went down with a knee injury on Monday. The MRI was negative and he's working through rehab. LB Warrick Holdman collapsed on the field after a collision with RB Mike Bell. He experienced numbness and was taken to the hospital where it was determined he had a spinal cord concussion. He will be out for at least three months. Minor injuries at camp... WR Javon Walker (hamstring), WR Domenik Hixon (separated shoulder), LB Ian Gold (back spasms), WR Brandon Marshall (thigh), WR Marquay McDaniel (hamstring), WR Glenn Martinez (thigh), TE Chad Mustard (hamstring), DT Jimmy Kennedy (hand), DT Marcus Thomas (calf), DT Demetrin Veal (eye), LB Louis Green (knee). None of these players have missed extensive practice time.
July, 2007
We signed DT Marcus Thomas this week, our 4th round pick out of Florida. We traded our 6th and 7th round picks this year and a 3rd round pick next year to Minnesota to accqire him with the 121st pick. He is the first of the draft class to sign.
We signed four free agentplayers from NFL Europa - G Emmanuel Akah (Frankfurt Galaxy), CB Bill Alford (Frankfurt Galaxy), CB Kevin House (Cologne Centurions) and T Cliff Washburn (Hamburg Sea Devils). This will be the last season of NFL Europa. Congrats to the Hamburg Sea Devils for winning the World Bowl!
Single game tickets for regular season games go on sale July 28th at 1:00pm EST. You can also get halfprice tickets starting at 3:00p. Click here for details or go to Ticketmaster.com for details!!
June, 2007
On Monday we signed free agent DT Sam Adams who was cut by Cincinnati last month. He is a 3 time Pro Bowler drafted by Seattle 8th overall in 1994 out of Texas A&M. We also acqired DT Jimmy Kennedy from the Rams for an undisclosed 2008 draft pick.
The Broncos have announced their schedule for the 2007 season. The preseason opens at San Francisco on Monday Night Football on ESPN on August 13 at 8:00pm EST. Then we go to Dallas for week 2, home against Cleveland for week 3 and Arizona for week 4. For the remainder of the schedule click here.
May, 2007
OTAs are now underway in Dove Valley... S Nick Ferguson has completed his rehab from a torn meniscus in his left knee. TE Tony Scheffler is out with a broken metatarsal bone in his left foot until July. WR Rod Smith is recovering from offseason hip surgery. WR Domenik Hixon is recovered from a fractured metatarsal that kept him off the field his rookie season.
The latest in our super busy offseason..... We waived TE Landon Trusty. He spent all last season on IR. We also waived RB Cedric Cobbs and signed 5 undrafted rookie free agents... G Tim Duckworth from Auburn, DT Steven Harris from Florida, WR Marquay McDaniel from Hampton University, S Roderick Rogers from U of Wisconsin and RB Selvin Young from U of Texas. We waived P Eddie Johnson. On May 7th we signed two more rookie free agents.... C Mark Fenton from U of Colorado and K Brandon Pace from VA Tech andT waved G Tim Duckworth.
March/April, 2007
We acquired 4 new rookies in the draft... We traded up with Jacksonville for our 1st pick (17th R1) and took DE Jarvis Moss from Florida... It cost us the 21st (R1), the 86th (R3) and the 198th (R6) picks. With our 2nd pick (56th R2) we selected DE Tim Crowder from Texas. We used our 3rd pick (70th R3) on OT Ryan Harris from Notre Dame. We traded up again to get the 121st (R4) pick and selected DT Marcus Thomas. This pick was originally ours but was sent to Atlanta, then Minnesota before coming back to us. Our 176th (R6) and 233rd (R7) picks went to Minnesota along with a 3rd rounder in 2008.
Latest roster changes for our beloved Broncos.... We signed free agent LB Warrick Holdman and LB D.D. Lewis. P Todd Sauerbrun was signed to a one year contract. He was cut by the Broncos last year after a 4 month suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. LB Al Wilson was cut after 8 years with the Broncos. G Cooper Carlisle signed a 2 year contract with the Raiders after playing for the Broncos since 2000. We signed WR David Terrell to a one year contract. Terrell played for us in 2005. Shanny has signed a 3 year contract extension through the 2011 season. LB Keith Burns is going to retire from playing and assist with coaching special teams. We signed WR Brandon Stokely to a one year deal. We resigned DE Kenny Peterson and WR Quincy Morgan and released DE Courtney Brown after he spent all of last year on injured reserve. We signed DT Alvin McKinley from Cleveland to a 4 year deal and TE Daniel Graham to a 5 year deal. QB Patrick Ramsey signed a 2 year deal to be Jay Cutler's backup. We signed RB Travis Henry to a 5 year deal and traded our sixth round pick in the draft for DT Dan Wilkinson. That trade became null on Friday however, when he did not report to team facilities in Denver. We also signed G Montrae Holland and FB Paul Smith. RB Tatum Bell and OT George Foster are going to Detroit along with a 5th round draft pick for CB Dre' Bly and a 6th round pick. Also.... QB Jake Plummer was traded to Tampa Bay for a conditional 2008 draft pick where he will retire as a Buccaneer.
Congrats to John Lynch for winning the Byron "Whizzer" White Award for his efforts in the community!
Congrats to Rod Smith for being inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame!
February, 2007
Apparently, to be a Bronco is a dangerous thing these days.... I have been unable to update my site until recently so I regret that I couldn't post my condolences earlier to the family and friends of Damien Nash, as well as to the team.... AGAIN.
Way to go AFC! John Lynch and Champ Bailey represented the Broncos in the Pro Bowl this year in Hawaii. The AFC won 31-28.
Congrats to John Lynch for winning the 2007 Bart Starr Award for his outstanding character and leadership on the field and in the community. The award is selected by balloting of the players throughout the NFL. Shanny seems to have finished his offseason coach shuffle and gave his season ending press conference on February 6th.
**Champ Bailey is now officially a FATHEAD!!**
January, 2007
Officially announced by the Broncos.... Our new special teams coach is Scott O'Brien, Joe Baker is the new linebackers coach, and Ronnie Brown has moved from special teams coach to Defensive Assistant. Speculation says Assistant Head Coach Mike Heimerdinger is also going to coach recievers and Jeremy Bates will coach quarterbacks. Of the former coaches in these areas, Pat McPherson and Steve Watson, one will coach tight ends and the other will become an Offensive Assistant.
Congrats to Champ Bailey for being selected unanimously to the first team 2006 Associated Press All-Pro team with 50 votes. Al Wilson was named to the second team with 13 votes and Javon Walker and Jason Elam each received 1 vote.
The Broncos hired Bill Johnson as the new D-line Coach from the Atlanta Falcons. Tight Ends Coach Tim Brewster will be leaving the Broncos for the Head Coach position at the University of Minnesota. Rumor has it that Linebackers Coach Kirk Doll will be leaving as well. The Broncos also signed 2 more players to future contracts - DL Amon Gordon and LB Eddie Moore.
Recent news with our beloved Broncos... Shannny fired Defensive Coordinator Larry Coyer and Defensive Line/Tackles Coach Andre Patterson. Bob Slowik was promoted from Defensive Backs Coach to Defensive Coordinator and Jim Bates was hired as Assistant Head Coach/Defense. He was the interim coach in Miami in 2004. He has 37 years of experience in the NFL and also at college level and his son Jeremy is currently on the Broncos staff as an Offensive Assistant. We also signed several players to future contracts - FB Troy Fleming, QB Darrell Hackney, DE Carlos Hall, LB T.J. Hollowell, P Eddie Johnson, TE Teyo Johnson, G Kevin McAlmont, CB Lamont Reid, T Jacob Rogers, LB Cameron Vaughn, FB Keith "Thump" Belton, CB Eric Hill, WR Glenn Martinez, G Doug Nienhuis, RB Andre Hall, CB Jeff Shoate and QB Preston Parsons. Belton, Hall, Nienhuis, Parsons, Shoate and Vaughn are currently on the Broncos practice squad. The Broncos allocated 5 players to NFL Europa - C Greg Eslinger, G Kevin McAlmont, OT Doug Nienhuis, TE Teyo Johnson and CB Lamont Reid.
I found Darrent Williams' site recently... Click here to check it out. Apparently he had a myspace page too but it has since been taken down. I definately think I'm gonna have to go out and buy myself a 27 jersey. It's funny how we reflect back on people that die and portray them in a good light because we don't want to speak ill of the dead. Thinking back on D-Will (as his affectionate nickname goes), every story I read about him since we drafted him was about his infectious personality and how he overcame so many negatives to be such a positive person, and how he took that and spread it around. I stopped buying player jerseys awhile ago because players get traded. My favorites are Elway and McCaffrey and I had those made. But I want to keep the memory of number 27 alive. It's not just because he was murdered senselessly. It's because he represented (by all accounts) what an athlete and role model should be.
Week 17, 2006
I am dissappointed about our loss to the 49ers this week and our missing out on the playoffs but it all seems so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I'll save my thoughts on the game for later. I do want to say how shocked and outraged I am about the senseless killing of cornerback Darrent Williams on New Years Eve.
Now that the shock (but not the anger) has worn off a little since Darrent's passing, I'd like to take a minute to address the unbelievably worst officiating I've seen EVER!!!! Anyone who watched the game knows what I'm talking about. First Tatum Bell fumbles the ball and falls on it but nobody knows he fumbles it so nobody goes for the ball. Then when an official goes to pick it up to spot it for the next play, Walt Harris picks up the ball to hand it to him and somehow, the 49ers get possession on a turnover that no one knows even happened!!! Then later, Taylor Jacobs catches a pass and is tackled and then loses the ball and Karl Paymah picks up the football and starts running while the ref is standing there, again with an outstretched hand for the ball, but the whistle hasn't been blown yet. The play is ruled a turnover and is challenged, and in the replay we clearly see that the receiver was down and the call was overturned. But the refs say it was an incomplete catch when he clearly had possession. That call essentially was better for us but it was so incredibly bad I was dumbfounded. Then later, San Francisco is in position to kick a field goal in the 4th quarter, the refs call a delay of game penalty on the Broncos defense!! Maybe it's me, but how the hell does the defense delay the game when they don't have the ball!?!?! I've never heard that call in all my years of playing football!!! So essentially, the 49ers get to kick a 46 yd field goal instead of a 51 yarder. As you can probably imagine I was a little hoarse the next day.... And I'd like to make one comment about Jake Plummer. He certainly proved why he got benched, didn't he. Let's see he completed 1 pass and it was to the wrong team and he got called for a false start penalty. I've also never seen that although I'm sure it has occurred somewhere in football history. And that's all I'm going to say about that. Back to D-Will, DenverBroncos.com has put up a nice memorial page as an intro to the main site. Also check out The Rocky Mountain News or The Denver Post for stories related to the shooting. The rest of the team and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Week 16, 2006
Well well, if we didn't see a little Mile High Magic on Christmas then I don't know what you call it!!! Way to go Broncos!! Jay looks like he's hitting his stride and hopefully he can continue it next week. If we win we're in. If we lose, KC has to lose or we're out because if they win, they have the tie-breaker over us in division wins. So lets just WIN!! Vote for Jay Cutler for rookie of the week!! He won last week, lets make it 2 in a row!! I should be able to finish all the game recaps this week so I should be fully caught up by the playoffs!!! Be sure to check back then too!! Go Broncos!!
Week 15, 2006
Sorry about the delay in updates these past few weeks... I have been super busy with finals and holiday preparations!! Gotta say I'm so glad we won this week because we needed it badly!! And with the Cincy loss we're now the 5th seed in the AFC playoff race!!
Week 14, 2006
Ouch!! That was a rout! Kudos to Cutler for engineering a comeback attempt in the 3rd quarter and he threw no INTs this week which is always a good thing. As for the rest of us.... I just don't understand what happened. The potential talent is rampant in this team and we just can't get it together!! I know we have injuries but that shouldn't have led us to 4 losses in a row. I still love my boys and I'll root for them every week but I must say, they're making it really hard on us Broncos die-hards these days!!
Week 13, 2006
Where has our team gone? What happened to this awesome defense and the potential on the offensive side of the ball. I know Cutler is a rookie and I expected him to play like one. But I also expected the rest of the team to pick him up and play like the veterans they are. That didn't happen. Is it too early to say it? I guess there's always next year....
Week 12, 2006
Well I guess the football Gods have heard my cries because there's a new starting QB in Denver. I didn't call for Cutler until after our loss to the Chiefs on Thanksgiving but that was the last straw. Even if Cutler doesn't play well initially, he at least has an excuse. There is no way we were going to the playoffs playing like we did with Jake Plummer. As much as I didn't like the way he was playing, I do realize that the rest of the team had plenty of responsibility for the losses too. Maybe the change at QB will shake up the whole team and make everyone start playing better!!
All I have to say is start Jay Cutler. I have not called for him all year but we just lost 2 division games in a row and possibly a playoff appearance. If we're gonna lose the rest of the season, I'd rather do it with a rookie QB because at least then we have an excuse. I know the losses aren't all Jake's fault but he does take alot of the blame. He has proven to me that last year was a fluke and even when his job is on the line, he can't produce. As far as I'm concerned, he's fired.
Week 11, 2006
Anyone who keeps up with my weekly rantings should know how upset I was when we lost this week to San Diego. I knew it was going to be a tough game but we blew it. I think it is ridiculous that we gave up 28 unanswered points. I think it sucks that Jake threw an INT on 4th and 4 when we really needed to keep the drive going instead of give up 7 more points. Why did we even risk that with 3 minutes and 2 timeouts left and with Jake I keep throwing to the wrong team Plummer? And I especially think it sucks that Jake fumbled the ball on our last snap, throwing away a chance (with the grace of God) to tie the game and go to OT. In truth, I don't think it mattered much because it looked to me like we had already given up. I do not blame this loss on Jake. I blame the whole team, although he had another horrible game. I think those huge mistakes were at the worst possible times, but we shouldn't have even been in that position! I know we studied game tape from last week and saw what the Chargers did to Cincy. Did we really think that they couldn't pull that off twice? Did we really sleep on a mere 17 point lead against the team with an insane comeback for a win just one week ago? I never stopped being nervous watching that game, that's for sure, even up 17 points. Now, instead of being on top of the AFC West, we are one game back and only one game ahead of Kansas City, who we play on Thanksgiving. If we lose to them it's over. The Chargers play Oakland and Buffalo before we meet again and I don't see them losing either of those games. We both have one division loss so we definately have to beat them at our next meeting, which is in San Diego. I love my team and I will always root for a win but it's getting mighty stressful watching them fall apart. What happened to our number 1 defense? And Jake completed only 13 passes and an INT and he fumbled twice. We will not get anywhere playing like this, least of all the Superbowl.
Week 10, 2006
Well that was a NASTY looking win this week. I mean, if we're gonna play like crap, better do it against a crappy team so we have a chance of winning! I am still annoyed about Plummer's 4 INTs (yes, I said 4!). He's lucky the officials were blind about the last one because that defender looked to have both feet in with possession to me!! So he only got credited with 3, which is still pathetic. I know the Raiders have the #1 pass defense (crazy as that is!) but Jake Plummer is INT happy so I guess it was an ideal matchup. After all, this is the 2nd time this year he's thrown 3 in one game. Overall, our whole team played like you know what til about the 4th quarter when I guess we figured out we can't be losing to a pathetic team such as the Raiders if we want respect in this league. Plus, I know it's early but we had to win because we're now tied at 7-2 with the Chargers for 1st place in the AFC West but we own the tiebreaker because we are 3-0 in the division and they are 1-1. That tie breaker wouldn't have mattered if we dropped to 6-3. We better have gotten all our crappy play out of the way because our next 2 games are gonna be intense and important, San Diego on Sunday night and then at Kansas City on Thanksgiving. One of us has to lose next week and concede 1st place. I sure as hell hope that someone isn't us!!
Week 9, 2006
Well, I guess we got our gitback this week at our 700th regular season game and I'm very happy about it. It is a little bittersweet though since the Steelers are 2-6 and by that stat shouldn't be a very worthy opponent. But it was a hard won game and the victory is still sweet, even though they tried to break up half our team!!!! Safety Sam Brandon is out for the season with a torn ACL and has officially been placed on IR. Kudos to Champ for picking Ben off twice making his count 5 INTs for the season. And hooray to Darrent Williams for his superb special teams work. And of course Javon Walker and the rest of the offense (Yes! That includes Jake!) for a game well played. Our defense in general ROCKED, forcing 6 turnovers, 3 INTs and 3 fumble recoveries. It's a shame we only capitalized on one of those but our offense did just fine scoring so I guess they served more to prevent the Steelers from scoring than enabling us to score. I still love those stats though!! Just announced, we get the prime time slot on November 19th so our game has been moved from 4:15 to 8:15pm for us Eastern time folk. And then the Thanksgiving game four days later. And rumor has it that our December 3 game against the Seahawks might be moved to primetime too! Officially the rule is no more than 5 primetime games per team per season and that would be our 6th but the Thanksgiving game doesn't count because it will be aired on NFL Network and they are allegedly exempt from this rule! Off to Oakland next week and hopefully we can kick their butts a little better this time since our offense seems to finally be coming together!!
Week 8, 2006

Week 7, 2006
Ok, I was working on the archives here and I accidentally erased this weeks' comments.... I generated alot of responses this week because I was mad at Jake for fumbling. Basically, we lost to the Colts by 3 points with a last minute FG with 6 seconds left. I spouted off because Jake fumbled on the 18 yd line, giving Indy the ball and they scored a TD so I blamed him because we lost by less than 7 points. To reiterate, we played a hell of a game, the best by the offense this year. It was pointed out to me by a few of my readers that Jake fumbled because his O-line didn't protect him but I think a QB should know how to hang on to the football. I think we would have won if he hadn't fumbled, but that is neither here nor there. Either way, we played a hell of a game and we lost, which SUCKS, but at least it was to a good team. I hate to lose to a sorry team and I hate even more to lose because we didn't show up. I can handle a loss where we played a good game and were just outplayed/outcoached/etc.
Week 6, 2006
I wanna start off by saying I am not a Jake Plummer hater. I hate his inconsistency. I think he makes bad decisions under pressure. And I am getting really annoyed by the INTs. He threw 2 at Cleveland, making 7 for the year in 6 games. He only threw 7 in all of last year!! (10 if you want to count the 1 in the AFC Divisional Playoff game and 2 in the AFC Champ game). Now I understand that sometimes receivers don't run the right routes or they drop the ball or it gets tipped and that is less the quarterbacks fault. But Jake tries to force things and he throws into double and triple coverage and that I don't understand. We gave up our 2nd TD of the year after an INT in the 4th quarter that was caught on the 37 and taken back inside the red zone to the 18 yd line. Now as much as I like to break NFL records, I like to win games more, which we did, but what happens when we play Indy and Pittsburgh and San Diego... all of whom are coming up in the next weeks? It's a lot easier for other teams to score on us when we keep giving away possessions instead of connecting on our own big plays!! And now that T Matt Lepsis is out for the year, our O-Line will suffer, hopefully not a lot. Plummer's gonna really have to get it together because Matt's replacement is a rookie who hasn't really proven himself yet. Next week we've got Indy (who is still unbeaten) at home so we'll see!! If our D keeps up the great work we should be okay. Go Broncos!!
Week 5, 2006
Well I must admit I was expecting a higher scoring game but a W is a W is a W so...... who cares!?! If only we could stop turning over the ball so much!!!!! But we have now gone 5 games giving up only one TD, which is especially amazing because we've turned the ball over a whopping 11 times (6 INTs and 5 fumbles lost)!!!! Off to Cleveland next week for what should be an easy game... It should be interesting though because Reuben Droughns may be looking to show off his stuff to his former team!
