Game Recap
1st Quarter:
7 - 0 Broncos lead
 Broncos RB Mike Anderson opened the scoring game with a 66 yd TD reception on Denver's 2nd offensive play of the game. Key play: WR Rod Smith 14 yd reception.
7 - 7 Tie Game
 Chiefs WR Dante Hall answered on the next possession with a 41 yd TD reception to tie the game.
 Broncos WR Ashley Lelie made a 56 yd grab to the Kansas City 17 yd line but the drive ended when QB Jake Plummer threw an interception in the end zone, caught by Chiefs CB Patrick Surtain.
2nd Quarter:
 Broncos CB Champ Bailey retaliated by picking off Chiefs QB Trent Green and returning it 10 yds to the Denver 43 yd line. It was Bailey's 7th INT of the season. The Broncos were unable to capitalize on the turnover and punted back to KC.
14 - 7 Chiefs lead
 Chiefs RB Larry Johnson scored on a 1 yd rush to put Kansas City ahead by a TD. Key play: WR Eddie Kennison 54 yd reception to the Denver 15 yd line.
14 - 14 Tie Game
 Broncos RB Mike Anderson scored his 2nd TD of the game to tie the score again on a 1 yd rush up the middle. Key plays: QB Jake Plummer scrambled 9 yds for the TD initially but the play was challenged by KC. The ruling was reversed because Plummer slid feet first and he was marked down at the 1 yd line.
21 - 14 Chiefs lead
 Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez put Kansas City ahead again with a 25 yd TD reception. Key plays: WR Eddie Kennison 27 yd reception, WR Samie Parker 14 yd reception.
21 - 21 Tie Game
 Broncos backup QB Bradlee Van Pelt tied the game for the 3rd time with a 7 yd TD run up the middle. It was his 1st ever regular season snap in the NFL. Key plays: TE Jeb Putzier 32 yd reception, WR Rod Smith 18 yd reception.
 Broncos WR Todd Devoe recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff return after Chiefs KR/WR Dante Hall was hit by Broncos S Sam Brandon with 22 seconds left in the half. Denver was unable to score before the clock wound to zero.
3rd Quarter:
 Chiefs LB Kawika Mitchell caught the 2nd INT of the day thrown by Broncos QB Jake Plummer to set Kansas City up at the Denver 20 yd line.
24 - 21 Chiefs lead
 Chiefs K Lawrence Tynes kicked a 34 yd FG after WR Eddie Kennison's 7 yd TD pass was nullified by an offensive holding penalty on the Chiefs.
24 - 24 Tie Game
 Broncos K Jason Elam answered with a 22 yd FG of his own to tie the game once again. Key plays: RB Tatum Bell 28 yds on 2 carries, WR Rod Smith 17 yd reception.
 Broncos CB Darrent Williams caught his 4th INT of the year and returned it 28 yds to the Kansas City 44 yd line.
4th Quarter:
27 - 24 Broncos lead
 Denver regained the lead for the 1st time since the 1st quarter when Broncos K Jason Elam kicked a 40 yd FG set up by Williams' INT.
31 - 27 Chiefs Win
 Chiefs RB Larry Johson scored his 2nd TD of the game on a 4 yd rush for the game winning score with 10:03 left in the game. Key plays: WR Eddie Kennison 18 yd reception, RB Larry Johnson 30 yd run, unneccessary roughness penalty called on Broncos S John Lynch gave the Chiefs 1st and goal at the 4 yd line.
 Both teams went 3 and out on their next possessions. Denver RB Mike Anderson went for it on 4th and 1 and was originally given the 1st down but the ruling was challenged by Kansas City and overturned, saying he was short of the 1st. Kansas City then ran the clock down to 0:08 and punted back to Denver. Broncos QB Jake Plummer was able to get off one play, a pass thrown to WR Charlie Adams that fell incomplete.
