1st Quarter:

Denver won the toss and elected to receive. On the 3rd play of the game, Broncos QB Jake Plummer was intercepted by Chiefs CB Ty Law and downed at the Denver 46.

Kansas City put up the 1st points of the game with a 24 yd FG by K Lawrence Tynes. Key Plays: WR Eddie Kennison 16 yd reception, WR Dante Hall 10 yd reception.

2nd Quarter:
10 - 0 Chiefs lead
Kansas City widened their lead with a 1 yd TD run by Chiefs RB Larry Johnson to cap a 13 play, 88 yd drive that took 7:41 off the clock. Key Plays: TE Tony Gonzalez 10 yd reception, RB Michael Bennett 15 yd run, WR Samie Parker 14 yd reception, RB Larry Johnson 11 yd run. The Broncos also committed two 5 yd penalties on 3rd and short to give the Chiefs 2 free 1st downs.
10 - 3 Chiefs lead
Denver answered by putting up their 1st pts of the game with a 31 yd FG by K Jason Elam on a 13 play, 70 yd drive. Key Plays: WR Javon Walker 21 yd reception and 3 consecutive 9 yd gains with completions to WRs Brandon Marshall, Javon Walker and Rod Smith.
After the ensuing kickoff, Chiefs KR Dante Hall returned the ball 60 yds to set up the last play of the half. Chiefs QB Trent Green's pass fell incomplete.

3rd Quarter:
13 - 3 Chiefs lead
Kansas City opened the 2nd half and took their scoring drive 51 yds for a 34 yd FG by K Lawrence Tynes. Key Play: WR Samie Parker 31 yd reception.
13 - 10 Chiefs lead
On 3rd and 11 Broncos QB Jake Plummer threw his 2nd INT of the game to Chiefs CB Patrick Surtain but the play was nullified by an illegal contact penalty on Chiefs DB Lenny Walls and the Broncos retained possession. Plummer threw deep again on the next play and the pass was caught by Broncos WR David Kircus for a 36 yd gain. With the help of WR Rod Smith, the Broncos were set up with a 1st and goal at the 1. Broncos TE Stephen Alexander caught the TD pass to narrow the scoring margin to a FG.

4th Quarter:
16 - 10 Chiefs lead
On the 1st play of the 4th quarter, Chiefs K Lawrence Tynes put up 3 more pts with a 29 yd FG to end a 6:25 possession that finished out the 3rd quarter. Key Plays: RB Michael Bennett 12 yd reception, RB Larry Johnson 21 yd run.
The Broncos punted away their next possession and Kansas City drove 40 yds to the Denver 40. On 1st and 10, Chiefs QB Trent Green was picked off by Broncos CB Darrent Williams and returned 6 yds to the 36. The Broncos then went 3 and out, unable to capitalize on the turnover.
19 - 10 Chiefs win
On their ensuing possession, Kansas City drove to the Denver 4 but were unable to score a TD. K Lawrence Tynes kicked his 3rd FG of the game to widen the gap to 2 scores with 2:46 left in the game. Key Plays: WR Samie Parker 26 yd reception, RB Michael Bennett 41 yd run.
Denver's final drive was a disaster, gaining only 9 yds due to a sack for a loss of 7 and 2 fumbles. Faced with 3rd and 13, Broncos QB Jake Plummer couldn't connect on the final 2 plays and the Chiefs knelt to run out the clock.
