Game Recap

1st Quarter:
7 - 0 Broncos lead
Arizona won the toss and elected to receive. They went 3 and out and punted away. Broncos RB Tatum Bell ran for 3 and 8 yds respectively to set up 1st and 10 at the 46. On the 3rd Denver play of the game, rookie QB Jay Cutler launched the ball 54 yds downfield to WR Javon Walker for the 1st TD of the game.
10 - 0 Broncos lead
On the 1st play of Arizona's ensuing drive, Broncos CB Champ Bailey picked off Cardinals rookie QB Matt Leinart at the Arizona 31 and returned it 5 yds. Denver pushed to the 12 but were unable to get in the end zone. Broncos K Jason Elam kicked a 30 yd FG to increase the lead to 10.
Arizona got the ball back at their own 30 and on 1st and 10, Broncos DE Ebenezer Ekuban sacked Leinart for a 10 yd loss, forcing a fumble. The ball was recovered by Cardinals TE Fred Wakefield to retain possession. Arizona then went 3 and out and punted back to Denver.

2nd Quarter:
13 - 0 Broncos lead
Denver's next possession went 78 yds to the Arizona 4 yd line and took 9:02 off the clock, resulting in an Elam 22 yd FG. Key Plays: TE Tony Scheffler 13 yd reception, WR Javon Walker 11 yd reception, RB Mike Bell 11 yd run.

On the 1st play of Denver's ensuing drive, Cutler completed a 32 yd pass to WR Rod Smith who then fumbled the ball which bounced out of bounds. The Cardinals challenged the completion and it was overturned, setting the Broncos up with 2nd and 10 back at the 16. On the next play, Cutler handed off to RB Tatum Bell who was brought down for a loss of 6 by Cardinals DE Chike Okeafor, but not before fumbling the ball. It was recovered by Cardinals DE Antonio Smith at the 4 who then ran it in for an Arizona TD.
16 - 10 Broncos lead
Denver then marched 66 yds down the field on 13 plays but had to settle for a 30 yd Elam FG after eating up 6:56 off the clock. Key Plays: WR Javon Walker two 10 yd receptions, TE Tony Scheffler 16 yd reception, WR Rod Smith 14 yd reception. Arizona then went 3 and out leaving Denver 21 seconds on the clock. They advanced 29 yds in 3 plays before the end of the half.

3rd Quarter:
Denver got the ball 1st for the 2nd half. On the 3rd play, Cutler's pass intended for WR Rod Smith was intercepted at the 49 by FS Robert Griffith and returned 23 yds to the Denver 28. The Cardinals managed only 4 yds and were forced to kick a 40 yd FG. The kick was good but it was nullified by an offensive holding penalty. Rackers' rekick was from 50 yds out and he missed wide left.
23 - 10 Broncos lead
On the Broncos next drive, they went 60 yds on 6 plays culminating in a 10 yd TD reception by WR Rod Smith. Key Plays: TE Tony Scheffler 29 yd reception, WR Brandon Marshall 15 yd reception.
23 - 13 Broncos lead
Arizona answered with a 38 yd FG to cap an 11 play, 65 yd drive. Key Plays: WR Anquan Boldin 21 and 18 yd receptions. The Broncos sacked Leinart twice for losses of 5 and 4 yds respectively. The second was by Broncos DE John Engelberger who forced a fumble but the ball was recovered by Leinart.

4th Quarter:

Denver opened up the 4th quarter with a 1 yd TD run by RB Mike Bell. He ran 22 yds on the drive including the TD. Cutler scrambled for the other 7.
30 - 20 Broncos lead
The Cardinals answered with a 4 yd TD run by RB Edgerrin James to cap a 13 play, 80 yd drive. Key Plays: WR Larry Fitzgerald 24 and 19 yd receptions, 14 yd Matt Leinart scramble. On 3rd and 6 at the 41, Leinart was sacked by Broncos DE Ebenezer Ekuban for a loss of 8. Leinart fumbled and the ball was recovered by Broncos DE Patrick Chukwurah at the 49. The play was challenged by Arizona and reversed and the Cardinals retained possession.
37 - 20 Broncos lead
Denver got the ball back at their own 38 yd line. WR Brandon Marshall caught a 17 yd pass to move the chains and on 3rd and 10 at the 45, Cutler was sacked for a loss of 5. He fumbled the ball but it was recovered by Broncos T George Foster. Arizona was flagged for unnecessary roughness, giving Denver the 1st down anyway at the Arizona 33. RB Mike Bell then ran for 18 yds on 2 plays and Arizona was penalized again, this time for tripping. Bell got the ball again and fumbled but it was recovered by Broncos LB Al Wilson. Two plays later, the Cardinals gave up 4 more yds on a pass interference call, giving Denver 1st and goal at the 1. RB Mike Bell then ran in the TD and Elam kicked the extra point, upping the score by 7.
37 - 20 Broncos win
Arizona got the ball back at the 48 yd line and on 3rd and 9, Leinart threw a deep ball intended for WR Anquan Boldin. Broncos CB Champ Bailey recorded his 2nd INT of the game and returned it 32 yds back to the 48. Denver then went 3 and out and Arizona got the ball back with 1:39 to go. They managed to get to the Denver 17 but could not score.
