Game Recap

1st Quarter:
7 - 0 Broncos lead
Oakland won the toss and elected to receive. On Denver's second possession, they put up the first points of the game with a 9 yd TD pass from QB Jay Cutler to WR Brandon Stokley with 5:08 left to play in the 1st quarter. Key Plays: Stokley 11 yd reception, WR Brandon Marshall 11 yd reception.
The Raiders drove 36 yds on their next possession to finish out the quarter but were forced to punt on 3rd and 9.

2nd Quarter:
Denver didn't have the ball for long however. On 2nd and 1 at the Denver 46, Cutler's pass intended for WR Javon Walker was intercepted by LB Kirk Morrison who returned it for 13 yds. He was hit by Denver T Erik Pears who knocked the ball loose. The ball was recovered by Raiders LB Thomas Howard at the Denver 47.
7 - 3 Broncos lead
The Raiders capitalized on the turnover when, 7 plays later, K Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 38 yd FG. Key Plays: QB Josh McCown sacked for 4 yd loss and fumbled but recovered, McCown 21 yd scramble.
14 - 3 Broncos lead
The Broncos answered with a 4 yd TD run by RB Cecil Sapp to cap a 5 play, 76 yd drive. Key Plays: Rookie RB Selvin Young 40 yd run, Walker 20 yd reception, defensive pass interference call on Oakland that set up 1st and goal on the 4 yd line.
17 - 3 Broncos lead
Oakland went 3 and out on their ensuing possession and Denver got the ball back at their own 28. The Broncos drove down the field with the help of a 24 yd reception on 2nd and 8 by Walker and a 23 yd run by RB Travis Henry. At 4th and 2 on the 5 yd line K Jason Elam added 3 points to the lead with a 23 yd FG. Oakland got off one play for no gain to end the half.

3rd Quarter:
Denver opened the half with the 1st possession and drove to the 24 yd line. On 3rd and 14, Cutler hit Marshall in the end zone but the play was nullified by an offensive pass interference call. Two plays later, Elam kicked and missed a 45 yd FG attempt when the ball sailed wide right.
17 - 10 Broncos lead
The Raiders scored on their ensuing drive, a 46 yd TD pass to WR Jerry Porter on 3rd and 10. Key Plays: Denver challenged and reversed a 1st down call at the 44, setting up 4th and 1. Oakland gained 10 yds on the next play with a run by RB LaMont Jordan. The TD pass came after 2 incomplete passes from the Denver 46.
The Raiders kicked onside 12 yds and recovered the ball at their own 42. They were unable to capitalize though, driving only 13 yds. Two penalties and an 8 yd sack by DE Elvis Dumervil helped stall the drive at the Denver 45 and the Raiders were forced to punt.

4th Quarter:
17 - 12 Broncos lead
The Broncos began their next drive on their own 8 yd line. On 3rd and 9, Cutler was sacked in the end zone for a loss of 9 and a safety by DT Gerard Warren. Denver challenged but lost.
20 - 17 Raiders lead
The Raiders drive was stalled again at the 47 and they punted, setting up a long field for Denver at the 7 yd line. After 2 big gains (Walker 19 yds and Marshall 17 yds), the Broncos were set up for 3rd and 8 on their own 45. Cutler's pass intended for Walker was tipped then intercepted by LB Thomas Howard and returned 44 yds for a TD. The 2 pt conversion was successful, putting the Raiders up by 3.
20 - 20 Tie Game
After driving 41 yds, the Broncos found themselves with 4th and 1 at Oakland's 39 yd line. They converted with a 2 yd run by Sapp to keep the drive alive, but stalled at the 2 and were forced to settle for a 20 yd FG to tie the game with 2:18 left to play. Key Plays: Henry 10 yd run, Stokley 23 yd reception, Walker 12 yd reception.
The Raiders ran down the clock and got to their own 41. On 3rd and 7, McCown's pass intended for Porter was intercepted by CB Dre Bly at the 17. Cutler then knelt to run off the final 14 seconds and go to overtime.

Overtime:
23 - 20 Broncos Win
Denver got the ball 1st to open the overtime period but went 3 and out. The Raiders managed a 33 yd gain by RB LaMont Jordan on 1st down but the drive stalled at the Denver 44. Janikowski's 52 yd FG kick was good but nullified when it was determined the Broncos called time out at the last second. The re-kick hit the left upright and bounced out, giving the Broncos another chance. Denver drove to the 6 yd line with the help of a 13 yd run by Henry and a 22 yd reception by Marshall. Elam's 23 yd FG was good to win the game.
